About the Film

Niko Brenner (38), alias Rapper Dr. Knarf, barely survived a serious accident of his own making 2017. A gas cylinder explodes in his hands in his recording studio in Cologne. The public prosecutor’s office accuses him of producing highly concentrated cannabis extract in his studio. At the time, Niko was heavily addicted to drugs. 40 percent of his skin is burnt and has to be transplanted. Niko was in an induced coma for three months and had four strokes during this time. Since then, he has been paralyzed on one side and half of his skull is missing. But Niko is fighting. Despite his severe physical limitations, he has been living alone in his own apartment and works in a workshop for people with brain damage.

Niko wants to live independently again, get back on stage and make music. “This is the best rehab for me,” says Niko. But now his past is catching up with him: he has received a summons from the court and his case is to be brought to a close. Now that he is finally finding his way back into life, he is threatened with another setback due to a possible prison sentence.
