Familie von Bodman aus Bodman

Episode for a documentary series ´45/´30, SWR, Adel im Südwesten- Die nächste Generation, 2019

About the Film

The film is about Johannes von Bodman, one of the eldest of the four children of Count Wilderich von Bodman and his wife Maria-Claudia. Just over 12 years ago, when he was in his late thirties and managing director of an organic farmers’ cooperative in Cologne, he took over the business of Gut Bodman on Lake Constance from his father. He is often called the “green baron” on the lake – which is certainly true in terms of his clear stance on organic farming and the importance of sustainable management and construction. For many years, he managed the predominantly forestry and agricultural business and managed various houses in the village of Bodman, which are part of the family estate. Johannes did not have to take over the business, as he says, but he never seriously considered not doing so. The challenging task of turning Gut Bodman into an ecologically sustainable organic farm and restoring the slowly decaying old houses in the village center to their former glory seemed too tempting. He has successfully achieved all of this. Johannes von Bodman However, he sees himself primarily as a provider of ideas, administrator, manager and investor.
